Announcing our partnership with:
Shires 1 Minute Film Fest!
This year's theme of the film fest is: Home.
About The Film Fest
Participants will be asked to create a 1-minute film based around the theme: Home. Submissions are now open through October. So go film, edit, and upload to Film Freeway. Participants can use their own equipment/phone or can utilize CAT-TV equipment.
We will host a Film Festival Gala on November 15th where we will celebrate the filmmakers, watch all film submissions, enjoy local food and drink, and award various prizes.
Open to all aged 10 and above!
Ideas to jump start your film
Script and Story Outline:
-
Short Film Script Template: You can use a standard short film screenplay template to structure your script, focusing on a condensed narrative due to the one-minute time limit. Remember that one page of script roughly equates to one minute of screen time.
-
1-Minute Video Script Guide: Guides like the one provided by Teleprompter.com offer step-by-step instructions on structuring a one-minute video script, focusing on a strong beginning, clear main narrative, and call to action.
-
Tips for Writing a Short Film Script: Resources like the article on the Routledge Blog offer tips on crafting effective short scripts, including the importance of a simple, specific idea, well-defined characters, and visual storytelling.
Visual Elements and Production:
-
Story Outline Template: A story outline template can help you organize the plot and key events of your one-minute film.
-
Storyboard Template: A storyboard template can help you visualize each shot and plan the visual flow of your film.
-
Film Moodboard Template: A moodboard template can help you gather and organize visual references for the film's aesthetic and overall look.
General Filmmaking Resources:
-
Free Film Production Documents and Templates: Websites like StudioBinder and SetHero offer various free templates for different aspects of film production, including call sheets, shot lists, and release forms.
-
Filmmaking Planning Templates: Platforms like Milanote offer templates to help you organize the various stages of film production, including pre-production and filming.
Important Reminders for One-Minute Films:
-
Conciseness is Key: You have a very limited time frame, so every element, from the script to the visuals, needs to be impactful and serve the narrative.
-
Focus on a Simple Idea: Don't try to cram too much into one minute. A single, clear idea is more effective than a complex plot.
-
Show, Don't Tell: Leverage visual storytelling to convey information and emotions, rather than relying heavily on dialogue.
-
Engaging Opening: Grab the audience's attention within the first few seconds.
-
Consider the Ending: Even within a short timeframe, ensure your film has a defined ending that provides a sense of closure or leaves a lasting impression.
